Introduction of New standard BS EN 61439 for Low Voltage Power Switchgear and Control Gear Assemblies at IES Singapore
Mennekes was founded in 1935, and it is the market leader for IEC 60309 Industrial Plugs and Sockets. Mennekes products are reputed for its premium quality, and well recognised in the market with full compliance to the new standard BS EN 61439. It is also the pioneer in the development of Type 2 plugs and sockets for Electric Vehicles. Beng Hui Marine has been the exclusive distributor of Mennekes industrial plugs and sockets since 2006.
On the 6th of December, there was a collaboration between Mennekes, Beng Hui Marine and Institute of Engineers Singapore(IES) to conduct a technical sharing session with members of IES by industrial specialists- Mr. Ulrich Clemens from Mennekes Germany.
Mr Ulrich Clemens is the Team Manager of “Trainings and Plant Visits” within Mennekes’ Communications Department. With a background in Electrical Engineering, he has worked with Mennekes Elektrotechnik GmbH & Co KG for 30 years. Mr. Clemens will be accompanied by Mr. Jörg Schneider who is the Sales Director Asia-Pacific and has also worked with the company for more than 30 years.
Sumptuous buffet dinner was provided prior and the session started with a short introduction of BH Global Corporation and its subsidiaries by Ms Jasmin Lim before Mr Joerg Schneider gave a brief overview. Mr Ulrich Clemens then took over to explain the need for the new standard BS EN 61439, which was to establish a harmonized, fundamental and binding standard with uniform specifications and limits for the manufacturing of Switchgear and Controlgear Assemblies. He also highlighted the importance of the new guidelines for Low Voltage Power Switchgear and Control gear Assemblies, and the products affected by the new standard. The impact and obligations on industrial applications were also elaborated. The session ended with a Q&A session to answer and discuss matters of concern from the audience.
IES also made use of this seminar for the prize award of the IES Innovation Challenge (Polytechnics Section). We had an enjoyable and fruitful evening at IES Singapore.
